  1. I. Cấu trúc so that (quá đến nỗi ) SO + ADJ/ ADV + THAT + Clause EX: He is very strong. He can lift the box. He is so strong that he can lift the box. He ate a lot of food. He become ill. He ate so much food that he become ill. He bought lots of books. He didn’t know where to put them. He bought so many books that he didn’t know where to put them. II. Cấu trúc such that (quá đến nỗi) SUCH (a/an) + adj + N + THAT + Clause Cách nối câu dùng such that : - Trước adj/adv nếu có too, so, very, quite thì bỏ. - Nếu danh từ là số ít hoặc không đếm được thì KHÔNG dùng a/an. - Nếu sau adj không có danh từ thì lấy danh từ ở đầu câu vào rồi thế đại từ vào chủ từ. EX: He is a very lazy boy. No one likes him. He is such a lazy boy that no one likes him. The coffee is too hot. I can’t drink it. It is such hot coffee that I cant’t drink it. Bài tập: Use So or Such 1. The sun shone__so_ brightly that she had to put on her glasses. 2. There were__so_ few students registered that the class was cancelled. 3. We had __such___ wonderful memories of that place that we decided to return. 4. It was__such__a nice day that we decided to go to the beach. 5. The book looked__so__ interesting that we decided to read it. 6. Lan called at___such___ an early hour that we weren’t wake yet. 7. There were__so___many people on the bus that we decided to walk. 8. The benefit was___so__great a success that the promoters decided to repeat it.
  2. *Nguyên tắc cần nhớ khi nối câu dùng SO THAT và SUCH THAT - Với câu có many/much chỉ được dùng SO THAT. - Với câu dùng a lot of/ lots ot chỉ được dùng SUCH THAT Nối câu với SUCH THAT 1 Tom was a tall man. He could almost touch the ceiling. . . . . . . . . 2. Mary is a good swimmer. She has won two gold medals. . . . . . . . . 3. He drank strong coffee. He couldn't go to sleep. . . . . . . . . 4. That bag was very heavy. None of us could carry it. . . . . . . . . 5. The stadium is very large. It can hold 60,000 people. . . . . . . . . 6. Those lessons are very difficult. He can't understand them. . . . . . . . . 7. She was very busy. She couldn't do the housework. . . . . . . . . 8. The climate was very bad. All the plants couldn't grow well. . . . . . . . . 9.   3. III. TOO TO (quá đến nỗi không thể ) TOO + ADJ/ ADV + (For sb) TO Vo EX: He is too young to go to school. The exercise is too difficult for me to do. IV. ENOUGH TO (đủ để có thể) Enough có 2 công thức cơ bản: • ADJ/ ADV + ENOUGH (For sb) to Vo. • ENOUGH + N (For sb) to Vo. EX: He doesn’t drive carefully enough to pass the driving test. carefully là adv nên đứng trước enough. I don’t have enough money to buy a car. money là N nên đứng sau enough. *Nguyên tắc cần nhớ khi nối câu dùng TOO TO và ENOUGH TO - Nếu trước tính từ, trạng từ có: too, so, very, quite, extremely, thì phải bỏ. - Nếu chủ từ hai câu giống nhau thì bỏ phần for sb. - Nếu chủ từ câu đầu và túc từ câu sau là một thì bỏ túc từ câu sau. - Bỏ các động từ khiếm khuyết ở vế sau.

It won't boil a kettle. The fire isn’t hot enough to boile a kettle. 9. Tom was very foolish. He told lies to the police. Tom was a foolish enough to lie to the police. Tom was so foolish as to tell lie to the police. 10 You are quite thin. You could slip between the bars. You are thin enough to slip the bars. 11 He is very ill. He can't eat anything. He is too ill to eat anything. 12 Our new car is very wide. It won't get through those gates. Our new car is wide enough to get through those gates. 13 The floor wasn't strong. We couldn't dance on it. The floor wasn’t strong enough to dance on. 14 I was terrified. I couldn't move.
  6. I was too terrified to move. 15 The bull isn't big. He couldn't harm you. The bull isn’t big enough to harm you. 16 The coffee isn't strong. It won't keep us awake. The coffee isn’t strong enough to keep us awake. 17 The river is deep. We can't wade it. The river is too deep to wade. 18 He is lazy. He won't get up early. He is too lazy to get up early. 19 He won't get up early so he never catches the fast train. He won’t get up early enough to catch the fast train. 20 Would you be very good and forward my letters while I am away? Would you be good enough to forward my letters while I am away? 21 The ice is quite thick. We can walk on it. The ice is thick enough to walk on. 22 He was very drunk. He couldn't answer my question. He was too drunk to answer my question. 23 It is very cold. We can't have breakfast in the garden. It is too cold to have breakfast in the garden. 24 He was extremely rash. He set off up the mountain in a thick fog. He was rash enough to set off up the mountain in a thick fog. 25 We aren't very high. We can't see the summit. We aren’t high enough to see the summit.

He wouldn't put himself out for anyone. He is too selfish to put himself out for anyone. 37. It is very cold. We can't go out. It is too cold to go out. 38. He is strong. He can carry it.
